A MUSICIAN from Leigh was on stage for the star-studded Diamond Jubilee concert.

Dave Bronze, 60, took to the main stage outside Buckingham Palace on Monday evening as part of Sir Tom Jones’s band.

The bass guitarist has 35 years’ experience performing around the world, but admits he felt rather nervous playing at the Queen’s bash.

Mr Bronze said: “Obviously you’re going to be fazed if you are sharing the stage with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John. It was a real privilege to be part of it.

“The atmosphere was just brilliant and it was very lively. It was a great day, and obviously it was good it stayed dry.

“A lot of the musicians know each other, so everyone was chatting backstage and just making the most of the day.”

Dave has been travelling and recording with 71-year-old Tom Jones since 2010, playing a key part in the star’s revival as a pop artist. Before then, he toured the world as a member of rock legend Eric Clapton’s band and played with Eric Bibb.

He played with Clapton on the guitarist and singer’s classic 1994 blues album From the Cradle, and their subsequent friendship means the bassist is still invited to join him on special one-off gigs.

The jubilee concert is not the first time Mr Bronze has performed for royalty. He said: “Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet the Royal Family on this occasion, but I did play at Prince Philip’s 90th birthday party with Eric Clapton, so I got to speak to them all then.

“I guess Buckingham Palace is becoming a regular venue for me at the moment!”

The Diamond Jubilee concert, which was organised by Take That frontman Gary Barlow, saw popular acts spanning the Queen’s 60-year reign wow the 10,000-strong crowd – including Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Cliff Richard and Stevie Wonder.

Modern artists such as JLS, Will.i.am, Kylie Minogue and Jessie J ensured younger audience members were also kept entertained during the three-hour extravaganza.
