A SLICE of Broadway glamour has come to Southend’s seafront.

At the newly opened £2million restaurant, Feelgoods, all of the waiters and waitresses sing for diners, performing theirfavourite songs while they enjoy their meals.

Opened by the owners of Adventure Island, it takes the place of the former Pizzas of Eight restaurant along Marine Parade and has created 50 new jobs.

Every 20 minutes visitors are treated to live performances from the singing staff. Songs include anything from the soft melodies of Eva Cassidy, to soulful and anthemic hits by Beyonce.

Showcasing talented local singers from colleges across Southend, Basildon and Castle Point, the latest addition to the seafront is proving a hit with locals as well as the students who work there.

The restaurant was only opened three weeks ago, but scores of residents have already been there to eat and enjoy the staff’s singing.

James Gibbs, co-founder and head of catering, said: “The idea has been kicking about for some time after a visit to New York, where out-of-work Broadway stars work in restaurants when they’re not in shows, singing and performing.

“We thought the idea was amazing and straight away wanted to bring it to Southend.”

He added: “It is great to know the people of Southend enjoy the restaurant and are really getting behind it.”

Feelgoods includes a family pizzeria and pasta restaurant on the upper floor, and game zone and retro milkshake bar on the ground floor.

It is not only family friendly, but environmentally friendly as well, with a natural sedum “living roof” made up from hundreds of mini cacti that change colour through the seasons and are completely self sufficient, absorbing water from the environment.
