A GROUP of dancers are aiming to tap their way into the Guinness Book of World Records and raise money for Children in Need.

Leighanne Phillips, 30, who runs LA Dance, will lead the world record attempt at Pitsea Leisure Centre, in Northlands Pavement, on Sunday, October 10.

Organisers taking part across the country aim to get over 7,596 people tap dancing to music of Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5 at the same time.

Miss Phillips, of Rippleside, Basildon, said: “I thank Basildon Council for donating the venue for free and I hope dancers of all ages and abilities will come and join in.

“Everyone is welcome.”

Kevin Blake, councillor and cabinet member for leisure and arts, said: “I’m delighted we are able to play our part in this Guinness world record attempt by offering our facilities for free.”

Those who take part will be asked to donate £10, with half the fee going to Children in Need and the other half towards a T-shirt.

Those interested must register by tomorrow.
