Lords golf club ordered to remove marquee
2:55pm Monday 30th April 2012 in News
THE owners of a golf club have been told to remove a marquee in their grounds after neighbours complained.
Rochford District Council has told the club to take down the marquee within three months and it has to stop holding any events in it immediately.
Residents bordering the golf club, in Hullbridge Road, Rayleigh, said there was music and noise coming from the marquee into the early hours.
Shaun Scrutton, Rochford District Council’s Head of Planning and Transportation, said: “We are committed to protecting the environment of the District for our residents and we will not hesitate to take firm action to deal with unauthorised development where it is warranted.
"The council has not taken the decision lightly to issue a Stop Notice in addition to an Enforcement Notice. However, in light of the ongoing complaints we have received, we want to put an end to the disturbance to local residents.”
There is a right of appeal against an enforcement notice which ordered the removal of the marquee but there is no right of appeal against a stop notice which prevents any events or music being played in the marquee.

The golf club management should have known very well the regulations. If they didn't they should not be running such a business.
If they simply chose to ignore them they again should not be running such a business.

It started off OK after the new owners did it up (with the help of a bit of dodgy landfill / regrading which I seem to recall also gave rise to a stop notice!) but apart from one half decent 18 hole course, the rest you can keep.
The management seem to just want to pack as many people into the place as often as possible and sell them not-so-cheap booze.
One of the members there was telling me it is because of chronic cashflow / debt problems and that they are now having to operate under some sort of 'voluntary arrangement' (something to do with a winding-up order taken out against them) with their many creditors.
I should have thought that the place had potential but could probably benefit from new management / ownership and by paying a bit more attention to the actual golfers that use the club rather than just the revellers.
