Updated: Elderly woman hit by car in Rayleigh

An elderly woman is in hospital after she was knocked down by a car.
At 12.30pm today, emergency services were called to Teignmouth Drive at the junction with Down Hall Way, Rayleigh, after the 76-year-old woman in was knocked down by a black Kia Rio .
East of England Ambulance service sent a rapid response car and an ambulance to the scene. The woman was taken to Southend Hospital suffering from head injuries where she remains in a stable
condition.
The car driver, a 26-year-old local woman, was uninjured but was treated at the scene by paramedics for shock.
A section of the road was closed for approximately five hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries.
