A reveller was left with a broken jaw after he was glassed in the face outside a Southend bar.

A 29-year-old man from Southend was bleeding profusely following the vicious attack outside the East Coast Social bar in London Road, which escalated after a fight involving up to six people.

During the row, he was hit over the head with a glass bottle, causing a deep laceration to his left temple above his eyebrow.

Police said he lost a lot of blood at the scene and his attackers had fled within minutes.

The injured man was then taken to Southend Hospital, where it is believed he had a number of stitches to the wound.

Police are treating the attack, which happened at about 8.40pm on Saturday, as grievous bodily harm.

Chief Inspector Simon Anslow, the district commander for Southend, hopes to catch the people responsible and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “The level of injury in this case is quite horrific.

“It is unusual in that it was so early in the evening and he sustained that level of injury.

“We cordoned off the scene, which caused a bit of disruption to the people who were parked by the side, but we were really grateful for the patience of the people returning to their vehicles.

“CCTV from the pub showed the fight spilled out of the pub and down the side.”

Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service arrived in London Road at 8.46pm.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We sent an ambulance officer and an ambulance to the scene, which arrived within six minutes.

“The man was bleeding quite heavily. He would have needed stitches at hospital.

“He was conscious the whole time we assessed him.”

A general manager at East Coast Social was unavailable for comment.
