University campus is on target

The new building in London Road, Southend The new building in London Road, Southend

THE new 11-storey student accommodation block for the University of Essex, in London Road, Southend, is well on track for its scheduled opening in September next year.

The building, on the old South East Essex College site, will provide homes for 561 students, as well as a new underground car park which will be run by Southend Council.

It is intended this will serve as a partial replacement for the Farringdon multi-storey car park, which is earmarked for demolition to make way for a new Southend central library and extensions to both the college and the university campus.

Be nice for guests when it eventually reopens, to look out across a completely restored Pier Pavilion and Pierhead sometime in the near future. Those rooms at the rear will of course have stunning views of The Royals.
Sorry. sorry, only dreaming.....! Nice to see a lovely old building restored rather than demolished and turned into a 12 storey block of flats.

Fantastic that should help regenerate to town centre as a place for 'boozing and fighting' when the students arrive in force, and if they are scruffy and fall over they can blend in with the beggars and alchy's currently there.

And the Police who years ago used to clear them off can do their now 'New Labour' required Social workers act and be nice to them.

Still at least the Eastern European gangsters that currently loiter around the High Street day and night will make a good profit off them.

Another stunning award winning shoe box design just like the other one half way down The High Street.
Nice to see Southend carrying on the 1960's/70's high rise traditions. Bless 'em!

Great to see this tory council looking after it's own (kids, relatives kidS, friends kids etc)! While a number of its citizens live in dives owned by foreign crooks! These are quality accommodation built for over indulged teens from middle class backgrounds those parents live in expensive homes barely a few stops along the railway lines. Yet the council doesnt have enough decent standard places to home the people that need them, not just to attend a few classes at college/university a week. DISGUSTING TORYS SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME.
