THE VIEWS of residents and motorists are being sought on a new transport strategy for Southend.

The council is drawing up its third local transport plan, which replaces the existing plan that runs until March 2011.

Responses submitted during this first stage will contribute to the draft strategy, to be unveiled in the autumn when there will be further opportunities for consultation and comment.

Mark Flewitt, the councillor for planning and transport, said: “It is important that the borough has a robust transport strategy for the future.

“Given the current fragile economic situation, the transport strategy will be essential in making the case for local investment and regeneration within the borough.”

Documents with more information on the issues and options can be viewed or downloaded from the council’s website, www.southend.gov.uk, or viewed at libraries in the borough and Southend Civic Centre.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday, July 30.
