GAVIN Tomlin spent a season without success trying to score for Brentford at Griffin Park.

But he finally hopes to be able to find the back of the net there tonight when he returns to West London with Southend United for an FA Cup third round replay.

Tomlin made 15 appearances for the Bees before falling out of favour.

And he is looking forward to heading back there this evening.

“I only spent a short time with Brentford and didn’t play that many games because the manager who signed me got sacked but it will be good to go back,” said Tomlin, 29.

“I think playing away from home might actually suit us a little bit more and hopefully we can get the result we all want because we want to get ourselves back on track after a disappointing defeat at Exeter on Saturday.”

Blues seem likely to be missing midfielder Marc Laird for tonight’s clash after he pulled his hamstring against the Grecians at the weekend.

Anthony Straker, David Martin and John Spicer will battle it out to replace him while striker Britt Assombalonga (ankle) is also a huge doubt.
