Ben Reeves - eager to impress for Southend United

BEN Reeves is determined to show his best form when Southend United head to Accrington Stanley tomorrow.

The on loan Southampton midfielder impressed in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

But the 21-year-old feels capable of producing improved performances.

And he is eager to do so as he attempts to sort out his future in the game.

“I’m in the final year of my contract at Southampton and I’ve had no indication about whether or not I’ll get a new deal so it’s a massive few months for me,” said Reeves.

“I want and need to play well during my time with Southend and then we’ll see who believes in me and who doesn’t.

“I certainly believe in myself and what I can do but the game is all about opinions and I don’t know what will happen.

“I just want to do the best I can for Southend and although I was fairly pleased with how I played at Leyton Orient I feel like there is still a lot more to come from me.”

Reeves, who is with Blues for an initial month, hopes to show that against Accrington Stanley.

And he has no qualms about playing on what could be another difficult pitch.

“The conditions were tough at Orient but I actually enjoy playing on different types of surfaces and learning how to deal with them,” said Reeves.

“It’s good to experience these things and to be honest I’m just enjoying being involved in first team football again.”

Reeves had not figured for Southampton since November before joining Southend but he insists his fitness is not an issue and he is desperate to continue his bright start with Paul Sturrock’s side.

“We’ve won two out of two since I’ve been here and I’ve settled in well,” said the youngster.

“I’m enjoying it here and hopefully we can make it three wins out of three by beating Accrington.

“But being away from home I expect it will be difficult and we will have to dig in if that is to happen.”

Blues head in to the game sitting fifth in the League Two table, while Accrington are down in 20th.
