DISAPPOINTINGLY, my season has now come to an end as I will be having an operation on my right knee next week.

My medial ligaments need recon-structing, which makes the injury sound worse than it actually is, but it definitely means I will not be available for selection again this season.

It’s obviously frustrating because, just like everyone else, I want to be able to impress the new manager, Phil Brown.

But, by having the operation now, I should be OK for the start of pre-season training and I think it makes sense to get it all sorted.

It was something that was suggested and recommended to me when I first suffered the injury back in September and in hindsight maybe I should’ve had the operation then as I would’ve been fully fit again by now.

However, at the time I thought it would be better to get back playing as quickly as I could, but unfortunately that has not been possible.

I will now be working hard to get back to full fitness and will obviously be supporting and helping the lads any way I can during the remainder of the season.

We’ve had a crazy few days at the football club with a change of management taking place, but it’s clearly evident that there’s a real buzz back around the place.

That should not be taken as a criticism of Paul Sturrock because a new man coming in naturally creates that kind of atmosphere.

Players and staff all want to impress and be receptive to his new ideas and hopefully that can help the team in the two matches that are coming up over the Easter weekend.

The first of those games comes at Bradford City tomorrow and they’re a physical side who are well organised and difficult to play against.

Their cup exploits have been well documented this season and, like ourselves, they will still have hopes of working their way back into the play-offs.

We only have seven games left to get the points we need, but it is still possible for us to get into the top seven.

However, we will need a good result at Bradford and then also at home to Fleetwood on Monday to have any chance of extending our season.

Hopefully that can happen and the new manager can give us a lift.

I’ve not worked with him before but I’ve played against his teams and they've always been well organised and quite aggressive, which is something we certainly need to be in the matches we have coming up.

LUIS SUAREZ GETS MY VOTE FOR PFA

ALL our votes have now been cast for the PFA players’ player of the year award and there were varying views in our dressing room as to who should win it.

I went for Luis Suarez due to the volume of goals he has scored for Liverpool, but others went for Gareth Bale, Robin Van Persie and Frank Lampard.

However, I think everyone seemed to agree that Bale deserved to win young player of the year, once we realised he was young enough to be considered
