CHRIS Green wants his in-form Southend side to make history this weekend by securing the club’s first ever victory at Redruth.

Since being formed in 1870, the Seasiders have never won away at the Cornwall club.

And Green is keen to end that record.

“No Southend side have ever won away at Redruth so that’s the challenge we’re facing this weekend, but it’s one we’re really looking forward to,” said Southend’s director of rugby.

“The fact we’ve never won there shows how hard it is to get a result there and it is a difficult place to go and play.

“They get big crowds and make it difficult for opposing sides. But we’re in good form at the moment and we will be going there confident of causing an upset.”

Southend have surged out of the relegation and up to 10th in the National Two South standings after winning five of their last six matches.

That has put them 12 points clear of the drop zone with just four games to go.

However, Green does not feel his side are safe just yet.

“We need at least one more win to make sure we stay in the league and hopefully that will come tomorrow,” said Green.

“Redruth are having another good season and they’re fourth in the table at the moment so we’re in for a real test.

“But it’s another chance to show how much we’ve improved in the last few weeks and we’ve had a good week in training as well.

“We’re feeling refreshed and we’re ready to work hard and dig in to try and get another good result.”

Southend have no new injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s game, but hooker Charlie Keenan is pushing for a recall in the front row.
