WE finish our season at home to Morecambe on Saturday and will be wanting to sign off for the summer on a high.

People from the outside will be looking at the match and saying there is nothing much to play for, but that is never the case in football.

We’re still only at the start of the manager’s reign and the lads will still be wanting to impress him to stay in his plans.

There are some who will be playing for new contracts and others who we have on loan and may be unlikely to come back who will want to show what they can do to whoever maybe be watching.

As well as that, we also want to finish as high up the table as we can and although a place is the top seven is no longer possible, a position in the top 10 certainly is, so that’s what we will be aiming for.

It’s obviously frustrating not to be higher in the table and there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s been a really disappointing season for us.

The positive was obviously the great run we had in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and making the club’s first ever Wembley cup final was a fantastic achievement.

It was a day everyone will always remember and a day the players will have learnt from.

But we should’ve done much better in the league because with our players we should’ve been challenging for a top three finish, let alone the top seven.

That hasn’t happened though and I think the last few games probably explain why. We put in very good performances against both Bristol Rovers and Aldershot Town before playing poorly and losing at York City on Saturday.

That kind of inconsistency sums our season up in a nutshell and if we are to improve next year then we have to have the desire to do well against the sides struggling towards the bottom of the table.

NO HOLIDAY FOR TIMLIN AND I

MOST of the lads will soon be disappearing and heading off on holiday but that will certainly not be the case for Michael Timlin and me due to our injuries.

We will be in every day and will both be aiming to be fit for the start of pre-season training in late June.

I think it will help us both that we will be able to push each other on but I am getting extremely frustrated with my knee.

It’s three weeks since my operation and I’m still unable to drive or do much with my children.

But these things happen in football and I’ll be working hard to get back to full fitness.
