THIS season has now come to a close and I think it’s ending with mixed memories for us all.

The highlight of the past few months was obviously reaching the JPT final against Crewe Alexandra and everyone at the club remains proud to have been part of such a special day.

But, beyond that, I think we have to be disappointed not to have finished higher up the table.

The opportunities were there for us to be in the top three or the top seven at the very least, but we weren’t able to take them.

It was also frustrating to sign off with a 1-0 defeat against Morecambe on Saturday as we got punished for not taking the chances that came our way.

That is something which has happened quite often in the last few games, but there are still positives to be taken from that.

It’s something which needs to be improved and we just haven’t been consistent enough over 90 minutes and 46 games and there’s no hiding that because the league table says it all.

For me personally, the season has been a disaster.

The problems with my knee haven’t helped my cause, but the lack of football opportunities that came my way were hugely disappointing.

But the manager has changed now and I will be working hard throughout the summer to get back to fitness after my operation.

I’m making good progress now and the brace on my knee has been moved up to 90 degrees, which means I can almost bend my leg now.

I’m hitting the targets the surgeon is setting me and I’m already looking forward to next season starting.

No matter what stage you’re at in your career you always have something to prove to someone and that’s still very much the case with me.

I have the hunger and desire to still succeed, but it’s too early to be calling next season my last.

I don’t set myself long-term goals in this game and right now I’m just thinking about sorting out my knee, being fit for pre-season and working my way into the new manager’s plans.

BEST OF LUCK TO BLUES' RELEASED QUINTET

FIVE players have been released by the football club and I’d like to wish every single one of them the very best for the future.

Alex Woodyard is a young player who hopefully has a good career in front of him and I hope he can get fixed up for next season.

Mickey Spillane, John Spicer and Elliot Benyon are all experienced professionals with plenty of matches under their belts, so I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Bilel Mohsni has also gone and he’s had plenty of ups and downs while he’s been with us.

Things didn’t go the way he would’ve wanted when he came back this season, but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying and we all wish him well with his career, whether that’s in England or France.

THANK YOU

I’D like to finish off my column of the season by thanking all Southend United fans for their fantastic support.

They have again shown their loyalty and passion for the team in some difficult circumstances and every single player really appreciates the backing they have given us.
