HADLEIGH teen Josh Rees is having a trial with League Two side Cheltenham Town.

The 19-year-old, who came through the ranks at Premier League giants Arsenal, has been invited down for a 10-day try-out at Whaddon Road.

“Teams are returning for pre-season now so I’m hoping to find a club and earn a contract,” said the former Southend High School for Boys pupil.

“I’ve got a chance to impress at Cheltenham and that’s what I’m hoping to do. They are a team who play good football and they have a good manager, so it would be a good move for me.”

If Rees does move to move to Cheltenham it could mean he’ll face hometown club Southend United in League Two next term.

He said: “That would be something I would look forward to because being from the area it would be nice to play at Roots Hall.”

Chelteham have lost in the League Two play-offs over the past two seasons.

Rees was released by the Gunners this summer and has attracted interest from League One club Brentford, and been for a trial with Scottish Premier League side Hearts.
