KEVAN Hurst does not feel Southend United’s poor record against Morecambe will have any effect on tomorrow’s game.

Blues have never beaten the Shrimps in seven previous meetings.

But Hurst is certain that will not be on anyone’s mind this weekend.

“I don’t think previous results really make much of a difference,” said the 28-year-old winger.

“It’s just one of those things that gets brought up by the media, but it doesn’t matter if a team hasn’t beaten someone else in X amount of games.

“We certainly won’t be thinking of that on Saturday and we’ll be preparing for it just like we would be against anyone else.”

But Hurst is still desperate to come out on top at the Globe Arena.

And he knows exactly what to expect against a Morecambe side who he spent four months on loan with during the 2010/11 season.

“Morecambe is a great club and I’m not surprised Jim Bentley is doing so well as manager there,” said Hurst.

“He was playing in the team when I was there, but you always knew he would go into coaching and I’m glad to see them having another good season.

“It will be good to see a few friendly faces there again on Saturday but hopefully they won’t be very happy at the end of the game because it would be nice to have a good cup run.”
