RYAN Leonard got among the goals against Morecambe to continue his good start to the season.

Lenny was brought to the club as right-back but he has pace to burn and excellent mobility.

I’ve been playing this 4-3-3 formation for years and I call the position Lenny is currently in the “Ivan Campo role” as that’s who played there when I was at Bolton.

But Campo was a centre-back playing in a defensive midfield role whereas Lenny adds a bit more with what he has to offer and I’m delighted with him.

CLEAN SHEETS ARE WHAT I VALUE MOST

I CLASS myself as a defensive coach and it’s therefore been the clean sheets that have pleased me most in our last couple of matches.

When I see a team who keep out their opposition I think they’re well coached, have good discipline, good organisation and good shape – traits I would like to think we have at the moment.

We’ve also now scored six goals without reply – by beating Mansfield and Morecambe 3-0 - so there’s plenty to be pleased about.

But I did pick up on one of the tweets in Monday’s Echo about how one fan felt alarm bells should be ringing because the strikers aren’t scoring goals at the moment.

However, the formation we’re using at the moment sees Kevan Hurst and Anthony Straker pushing further forward when we have the ball and they’re making the system work.

Hursty has two assists and one goal in the last two games while Strakes has scored three in the last two.

I also think Barry Corr has been a revelation in the old fashion number nine role he’s been given.

He’s working incredibly hard and it will only be a matter of time before he’s back among the goals again.

He’s up against his former side, Exeter, this weekend and one or two of the lads who played in the behind-closed-doors friendly at Charlton on Tuesday are certainly in my line of vision for the game now.

We may have lost 4-1 against Charlton but there were some good performances and it’s great that we’re able to get the players regular games.

WE NEARLY MISSED TRAIN TO MORECAMBE

AFTER the Lord Mayor’s Show is a well-known phrase often used in football but ironically we were literally after the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday and we nearly missed the train to Morecambe because of it.

We got a coach up to Euston train station and were making good progress until we found out a lot of the roads had been closed.

Traffic started to build up, along with the number of bollards – and I was starting to get a bit of a panic on as preparations for the Lord Mayor’s Show caused havoc with our journey.

However, we made the train with 10 minutes to spare and it was a huge success in the end so we will definitely look into doing it again.

TRAINING GROUND HELP NEEDED

WITH the weather starting to change it does appear that our Boots & Laces training ground will be taking a bit of a battering this winter.

We’re therefore starting to look at for alternative venues and facilities which we may be able to use.

We have the playfootball.net centre at The Chase (Prittlewell) which is fantastic, but if anyone else could come forward with different places where we could realistically train that would be great.

Anyone wishing to get in touch can do so by contacting Chris Phillips at the Echo on 01268 469307 or chris.phillips@nqe.com and he will pass any messages on to me.
