LIAM MacGeachy is back at Southend Rugby Club and is eager to play a part in tomorrow’s clash at London Irish Wild Geese.

The 25-year-old Australian made 21 appearances for the Seasiders last term.

And, having now returned from a five month spell travelling abroad, MacGeachy is happy to be back at Warners Bridge.

“I’m in London again and thought why not come back and play a bit of footy with the boys,” said MacGeachy, explaining his decision.

“I went travelling for four or five months which was great but having returned from that I wanted to get back playing again.

“I put myself through a three week fitness camp to get myself back in shape and I’m starting to get there again now.

“I came on right at the end of last weekend’s defeat to Launceston which wasn’t the comeback I wanted.

“But hopefully I can get more of a chance tomorrow and I help the team get a good result while also pushing my own chances of a start.”

Southend have slipped down to eighth in the National Two standings after suffering two successive defeats.

The Seasiders will therefore be looking to bounce back against an London Irish side who sit second from bottom in the standings.

And MacGeachy is keen to figure at inside centre should he get on.

“I’ve had a chat with Chris Green and I would like to be given a real crack at playing at centre,” said MacGeachy, who has also played at fly half and on the wing for Southend in the past.

“Last year I almost felt like a Mr Fix it man and of course I’ll be happy to play wherever I’m asked.

“But ideally I’d like to be given more a chance at centre.”

MacGeachy, who will also bring much needed kicking capabilities to the club, hopes to be able to impress wherever he is selected until the end of the season.

However, that is all dependant on MacGeachy’s responsibilities at work.

“I’m looking for work at the moment as a physiotherapist in London and when I get a job I might not be able to get in time for training,” said MacGeachy.

“At the moment it’s fine for me to come down but I’ll have to reassess the situation when I get a job.

“That’s not the case at the moment though and I’m just looking forward to the match tomorrow at this stage.”

Southend will again go in to the game without centre Sonny Gay who misses out with a shoulder problem.
