Greg Bannister gives Westcliff Rugby Club's promotion hopes a huge boost
GREG Bannister has given Westcliff’s promotion hopes a big boost by making a quicker than expected return from a broken hand.
Westcliff’s top try scorer was originally expected to be out of action for between eight to 12 weeks.
But the 19-year-old is now available after just five weeks on the sidelines.
And, after making a try scoring return against Diss last weekend, Bannister now has his sights set on helping table topping Westcliff see off Luton tomorrow.
“We’re expecting a hard game against Luton but I’m confident as a team we are good enough to go out and get the win and I’m glad I’m able to play a part in trying to help make that happen,” said the Leigh based Bannister.
“Luton haven’t been beaten in five or five games so they are on a good run but we’ve been doing well too.”
Westcliff remain five points clear at the top of the London One North table after suffering just two defeats so far this season.
And Bannister is desperate to help the team continue their good form and secure a return to National Three London & SE at the first attempt.
“I’m very pleased to be back out playing again and the result last weekend made it even more pleasing,” said Bannister.
“I suffered a broken bone in my left hand and I was expected to be out for eight to 12 weeks.
“But happily everything was back to normal near enough after five weeks so that was pleasing and the injury feels fine now.”
As a result, Bannister has his sights set on scoring more tries and adding to the 11 he has already bagged this season.
“Personally I have set myself a target of 20 then anything thereafter would be a bonus to me,” added the winger.
