BASILDON snooker professional Stuart Bingham missed out on a place in the final of the UK Championship tonight following a narrow defeat to world number one Neil Robertson.
Bingham had defeated world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals but trailed Australian Robertson 5-3 at the interval.
Robertson took the next three frames to put himself one frame from victory before Bingham launched his fight back.
The 37-year-old Essex player claimed five frames on the spin to level the last-four encounter at 8-8 and force a deciding 17th frame.
But Robertson took the last frame to secure a 9-8 win and go through to his first UK Championship final, where he will face either defending champion Mark Selby or Ricky Walden, who play their semi-final tomorrow.
