Chesterfield manager Paul Cook: "Football has got that way of taking you up and down. Today was always going to be difficult but credit to Southend, they're a very powerful side and you know they will be in the shake up come the end of the season."
Southend United manager Phil Brown: "I thought it was a magnificent performance and a magnificent result. Chesterfield are a good side and they showed that towards the end with a barrage of shots but Dan Bentley was brilliant for us in goal. The only disappointment was Luke O'Neill's injury. His thigh tightened up but hopefully he came off before it good too bad. He had done well before the injury and his pass for the first goal was up there with the best I've seen in any league so far this season."
Attendance: 6, 256 with 291 from Chesterfield
