Kevan Hurst: Why I stayed with Southend United
KEVAN Hurst committed his future to Southend United as he is certain the club are moving in the right direction, despite their loss of form.
The influential winger has signed a two year deal to extend his spell with the Shrimpers.
And the 28-year-old, who is Blues' top scorer with 11 goals so far this season, is certain the team will soon secure success with Phil Brown in charge.
“The club is only going to keep moving forwards under the gaffer because I think he’s been absolutely terrific since he came in here,” said Hurst.
“I’ve said all along that I wanted to remain with Southend and I’m over the moon now that it has all been agreed.
“Having been here nearly two years, I’ve really settled in the area, and I’ve always had a really good relationship with the fans.
“I really want to help this club progress and get into League One.
“That’s what everyone here wants and I believe it’s possible for us to get up this season.”
Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Wycombe Wanderers at Roots Hall on Saturday.
But Hurst is still confident the Shrimpers can turn things around and soon end their nine game winless streak. “We’ve had a little bit of a dip, but we’re still in the play-off places, “said the winger.
“We're still in a good position to go up and I'm glad everything been sorted out so I can concentrate fully on the games we have left.
“I never thought about leaving to go to another club but we have had a little bit of a dip recently which has been disappointing.
“As one of the more experienced players, it falls to me to help lift the other lads, but everyone is still full of belief we can achieve promotion this year.”
