HADLEIGH & Thundersley secured their first Division One victory of the season, beating local rivals Wickford by five wickets at John Burrows Park.

Both sides went into the game without having won this term.

But it was third time lucky for Hadleigh as they came out on top in a low scoring encounter.

Wickford were put into bat after losing the toss and were bowled out for just 94.

Hadleigh skipper Adam Soilleux led the way with the ball, taking five wickets for just 17 runs while both Kellon Carmichael and David Williams chipped in with two wickets each.

Wickford’s number three batsman Dean Etchells top scored with 24 and Greg Jerome added 21 but none of their team-mates were able to work their way past 11.

That handed Hadleigh a great chance to come out on top and 49 not out from Jack Stead ensured they grabbed their first success of the season as his side reached the required total for the loss of five wickets.

The victory also pushed Hadleigh up to fifth in the table and sent Wickford down to second from bottom in the standings.

Hadleigh also moved above Southend & EMT in the table after their game at Ardleigh Green was abandoned because of the wet weather.

Ardleigh were put into bat by Seasiders skipper Joe Robbins and they had reached 73-1 before rain forced the match to be called out.

Robbins took the only wicket to fall and they will now be hoping to get back on track when they travel to Wickford on Saturday.

Hadleigh are again in action at home as they host Harlow.
