WIMBLEDON is in full swing and tennis clubs in Southend will be throwing open their doors this weekend to let people try the sport.

Saturday and Sunday will see clubs serve up free tennis for families as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.

It is the third of four weekends organised by the LTA and Tennis Foundation’s to put tennis in the spotlight this summer.

People will get the chance to try cardio tennis, mini tennis and sample some coaching.

All the equipment will be provided so even complete novices can get involved.

“It’s great to see the amount of local people who are grabbing a racket and getting involved,” said the LTA’s regional tennis participation manager Nel Twitchett.

“People of all ages and abilities, young and old, parent and child, are all taking this opportunity to hit up their local court for a wide variety of fun and free tennis activities.

“With Wimbledon in full swing, there’s no better time to get down to your local park or club in Southend and get involved in these fantastic events.”

Venues offering free tennis this weekend in the town include: Chalkwell Park, Priory Park, Thorpe Bay, Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre, Westcliff Hard LTC, Westcliff Lawn TC, Southend LTC, David Lloyd Southend and Kent Elms LTC.
