SOUTHEND High School for Girls pupils are celebrating plenty of success.
The school’s senior girls tennis team of Olivia Sofroniou, Isabella Wolfe, Katie McGarrigle, Jessica Bunting and Joanna Rimmington have reached the final 32 of the National Schools Senior Tennis Tournament, the Aberdare Cup. They are playing in a week-long tournament starting next week in Sheffield. The team are very grateful to Aspen Windows and their managing director Nick Sofroniou for his kind and generous sponsorship of their new kit.
Meanwhile, Year 7 pupil Eleanor Butt, who plays for the Southend Swifts, has just been selected for the under-13 East of England basketball squad, while Georgia Sasse has recently gained selection for the under-15 East of England netball squad.
Finally, the school have had yet more success at the Southend Schools’ Borough Athletics Championships.
They maintained their long-standing title of more than 30 years as borough champions and also won the Year 7, 8 and 9 titles.
The Year 10 team were chased down by a fantastic performance from Eastwood School but it could not stop the borough title heading back to Southend High.
