ROCHFORD HUNDRED: The men’s section have kept up their busy competition period.
First up came the Larkin Cup with several players shooting outstanding scores.
Seven handicapper Jonathan Thornley finished top of the pile with a superb 70-7=63 as he put three shots between himself and the rest of the pack.
Thornley opened his round with a birdie and bogey apiece as he hit the turn at level par.
A trio of threes in a row, including two birdies from the 13th, secured a most deserved win and a two-shot handicap cut to five.
Tony Fayers (89-23=66) snatched second on countback courtesy of a fine back nine, as no less than 12 players saw their handicap reduced in good scoring conditions.
The Hillier Bowl & Drinkwater trophy was a much closer affair.
The stableford format competition saw just a single point separating winner Malcolm Treglohan from the rest as he won the Hillier bowl with 42 points.
Seventeen-handicapper Treglohan returned five pars and a couple of birdies to deny Paul Hickson and Graham Collins on 41.
The in-form Ian Hookway was just a further point away in third, as all four saw their respective handicaps cut.
The midweek Scott Spencer is now in its last few weeks as the top aggregate score players jostle for their final positions.
This week saw 10 handicapper Michael Tomlinson shoot 40 points to beat Tony Hadley by a point. Tomlinson saw his handicap cut to eight with Hadley now going to be playing off just one.
