Concord Rangers 4-0 Boreham Wood

FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round

CONCORD Rangers started life after Jordan Chiedozie with a stunning four goal win against Boreham Wood to book their place in the first round of the FA Trophy.

It has been a difficult week for the Beachboys, having gone out of the FA Cup to League Two Mansfield Town in the week.

And they lost seven-goal top scorer Chiedozie to Cambridge City on Friday, with Cheye Alexander also leaving the club to link up with Bishops Stortford.

Goals from Tony Stokes, Lewis Taaffe, James White and Joe Gardner secured the win.

Stokes, who was dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Mansfield, came back in and proved his worth inside the first ten minutes.

Good work down the flank freed the striker and he powered home an effort with his left-foot into the roof of the net.

And before the game was 20 minutes old they had doubled their advantage.

The tenacious Taaffe led a barnstorming counter-attack that ended with Gardner’s low cross being converted by the striker at the far post.

White, often unheralded for his midfield performances, added a third from close range and there was no let-up in their performance as the half came to a close.

Gardner, who had gambled as he marauded into the penalty area, struck low past Boreham Wood goalkeeper James Russell as the ball dropped to him.

Although the scoring was finished, Concord could have added to their lead after the break but for some terrific defending from the visitors.

Stokes had the best opportunity but his effort was well saved by Russell from close range.

This is the second successive year Concord have reached the first round of the competition and they will be hoping to add another chapter in their remarkable recent history to make it into round two.
