Heybridge Swifts 2-1 Great Wakering Rovers
From Scraley Road
Ryman One North
GREAT Wakering Rovers’ struggles in 2015 continued as they went down to mid-table rivals Heybridge Swifts.
Rovers have only won two of their nine matches this calendar year, including a win on New Year’s Day.
Manager Dan Trenkel described the game as a “must win” for the away side after their recent troubles, but they couldn’t have got off to a worse start, as they went behind after only three minutes.
Shamidu Pedulu scored the goal and, before Rovers had time to catch their breath they found themselves two goals behind.
Billy Hunt crashed home a second to leave Rovers in disarray although it wasn’t long before hope was restored.
Leon Smith popped up at the far-post to put the visitors back in it, controlling and volleying home after Tom Ranger had flicked on a Tom Strickland corner.
However, that was the end of the scoring and, despite a number of chances to equalise, Rovers could not force the equaliser that would have lifted them above their opponents.
