SOUTHEND United triumphed 4-1 in a behind closed doors friendly at Peterborough United this afternoon.
Joe Pigott bagged a brace while Jack Payne fired home a penalty and Luke O’Neill also netted.
Cian Bolger lined up at the heart of the back four after recovering from a shoulder injury.
And Blues boss Phil Brown was pleased by the attitude of his side.
“We spoke to the players about whether or not they wanted to be involved and it was a pleasing response,” said Brown.
“We had people who needed a game and it will have done them the world of good.
“Joe Pigott took his goals well and he’s doing all he can to get back into the starting line-up along with Jack Payne.”
Southend United: Bexon, O'Neill, Bolger, Prosser, Kyprianou, Bridge, Deegan, Payne, McLaughlin, Williams, Pigott
