SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown will announce more about Stephen McLaughlin’s illness this week.
The Irish winger has been forced to miss Blues’ last two games after becoming unwell.
And the 25-year-old has now been sent to see a specialist.
“Stephen has gone for further examination but I can’t really say too much about it right now,” said Brown.
“He’s seeing specialists at the moment and we will probably be able to announce something in the next few days.”
Brown was not willing to reveal more about the nature of McLaughlin’s illness.
But he does hope to have captain John White back in contention for Tuesday's trip to Crewe Alexandra as the full-back is now close to recovering from a thigh problem.
However, Adam Barrett – who has a hamstring injury – is expected to miss out.
“John White has every chance of being available for Tuesday but Adam Barrett will probably miss out,” said Brown.
“He could be back for Burton but he’s seeing a specialist on Tuesday so we will know more then.”
