CONCORD Rangers chairman Antony Smith admits he has told everyone at the club they could be thrown out of the FA Trophy, after they were slapped with an official charge yesterday afternoon.

The Beach Boys were told by the FA there was a charge pending against them with regards to fielding an ineligible player, in their third qualifying round match against Sutton United.

The Echo has been told the player in question is Jordan Cox, the on-loan Braintree Town striker who scored against Sutton at the end of November to set up a first round tie with Lowestoft Town this Saturday.

Although Smith admits he now believes he should have contacted the FA when it came to filing paperwork, in the absence of club secretary Chris Crerie.

“We signed Jordan (Cox) on a three-month loan from Braintree, and had permission from his club to play him in the FA Trophy,” Smith told the Echo. “What I didn’t know was that if you want to play a loan player in the competition you have to tell the FA and send in the relevant paperwork.

“Chris was away so I was doing the paperwork and I wasn’t aware of that. All I can say is that we will respond to the FA and tell them our secretary was away and that we had been given permission by Jordan’s club to play him in the competition.

“Chris has since got back, wondered if the paperwork has been submitted and contacted the FA, who have obviously told him it hasn’t.

"We have no hidden agenda but I have spoken to everyone at the club and told them what has happened and we will just have to accept the FA’s decision.”

The club have until 5pm today to respond to the charge.
