DIVING superstar Tom Daley believes he is in the best shape of his career after winning two gold medals at the National Cup in Southend.

Competing alongside Daniel Goodfellow, Daley won the 10metre syncro before he also shone in the platform final on Sunday.

And Daley, who won bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, was delighted to start another important season in fine style.

“Every year I start a little bit better than the one before and I’ve done that again here,” said the 21-year-old.

“I’ve been working really hard and I feel like I’m in the best shape I ever have been so I’m really excited about the year ahead now.”

Daley started slowly in the final but recovered strongly to score 545.80.

Matty Lee took second with 461 while Goodfellow was third with 419.35.

And Daley was pleased his final five dives.

Tom Daley - performed well in Southend at the weekend

“I’m pretty happy with how it went,” he said.

“Missing my inward three and half somersault, one of my easiest dives, definitely made me fight for gold even more, especially with Matty [Lee] diving fantastically.

“But 545 is a good score at the start of the season and that performance has really shown me that I can perform well no matter what.”
