Concord Rangers 1-2 St Albans City

CONCORD Rangers conceded a late goal to lose their unbeaten record in 2016 and fall to defeat against struggling St Albans City.
The Beach Boys had led through Steve King’s header but they were pegged back five minutes before half-time.
And they conceded what turned out to be the winner three minutes from the end as the Hertfordshire side gave their hopes of survival a real shot in the arm.
Ben Greenhalgh and Lewis Taaffe started brightly for the hosts and they had the best chances of the opening exchanges albeit with both missing the target.
They did get the opener they deserved on 18 minutes and it was the man who grabbed the winner at Gosport Borough last time out that was celebrating once again.
King was left with a simple header from point blank range after Greenhalgh’s delivery caused chaos in the penalty area.
It should have been two minutes later but Max Cornhill’s header hit the far post when well placed.
But out of nothing St Albans drew level. A corner was played in and Ben Martin was allowed a free run at goal and buried his header beyond Ben McNamara.
Twenty-two goal Steve Cawley saw an effort saved by Joe Welch as Concord struggled to create clear-cut chances after the break, and it was the away side who grabbed the late goal.
Louie Theophanous burst forward and smashed a terrific 25-yard strike into the top corner to the delight of the away faithful.
Concord Rangers: McNamara, Hammond, Stephen, Dowie, King, Easterford, Taaffe, Cornhill, Collins (Bantick), Greenhalgh, Cawley
