PHIL Brown labelled Southend United’s 3-0 win at Sheffield United last night as one of his best victories in charge of the Shrimpers.

Blues bagged three goals in the first 15 minutes to triumph at Bramall Lane.

And Brown felt the victory, which was Southend’s first of the season, was up alongside any other win he has experienced with the Shrimpers.

“This is definitely up there with any victory I’ve had as manager of the football club,” said Brown.

“With the pressure that was on us coming into the game it’s a huge victory and hopefully we’ve alleviated that pressure now.

“I want us to go into Saturday’s game against Bristol Rovers with renewed confidence.”

Stephen McLaughlin and Simon Cox were both on target for Blues following an own goal from Blades defender Jack O’Connell.

But Brown felt the commanding performance had been coming.

“We have seen glimpses of this kind of display in our first three games but we carried it out for much longer here,” said the Blues boss.

"This was about finishing a team off when you’re on the front foot and that's exactly what we did."

The victory also ended a club record run of eight successive defeats for the Shrimpers.

And Brown felt the pressure felt by Sheffield United playing at home also enabled Blues to come out on top.

"There’s pressure playing for Southend but the pressure playing at home for Sheffield United is immense," said Brown.

"They were under more pressure than us.

"We emphasised that to the players and think that came through during the game."
