CANVEY Island will be looking to take their frustrations out on high-flying Needham Market tonight.

A shocking red card shown to Tashan Hayden-Smith led to the Gulls suffering a 5-1 defeat to Enfield Town at the Frost Financial Stadium on Saturday.

And Heale, whose side are 22nd in the table, is now keen to get back on track.

“On Saturday we were 1-0 up and in complete control before we were hit by the worst refereeing I think I’ve probably ever seen,” said Heale.”

“Tash was sent off but it wasn’t even a yellow card. It happened right in front of the dug-out and even the linesman said we were hard done by.

“Their key player should have been sent off shortly afterwards when he kicked the ball away and wasn’t shown a second yellow card so it was all very frustrating.

“But we can’t afford to dwell on that now and there would be no better way to bounce back than by beating Needham Market.”

However, Needham head into the game sitting second in the table on the back of five wins in succession.

But Heale is eager for his side to show their worth.

“We’re in a false league position at the moment due to the number of games we have in hand on everyone but we need to go and prove that,” said Heale.

“Needham are a good side so it will be tough but we’ve played them twice already this season, including when the floodlights went out and they’ve been close games.

“We drew 3-3 at their place so we’ve shown what we can do.”

Canvey defender Steve Sheehan is a doubt for tonight’s game.
