SOUTHEND Saxons will be ignoring their off the field problems when they host Guildford in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Southend are still awaiting the final verdict from the RFU after pleading guilty to failing to control their supporters in October’s clash against Colchester.

But the Saxons squad are refusing to comment on the allegations and are fully focused on returning to winning ways this weekend, with scrum-half Ricki Gould desperate to come out on top against a Guildford side who are currently ninth in the standings.

“It’s a massive match on Saturday and we have to win,” said the youngster.

“We have a run of games coming up now against teams in and around us in the table and we need to kick it off by beating Guildford.

“I expect them to be well organised but we were disappointed not to win when we played them away earlier on in the season so we’ll be looking to right a few wrongs when we get out there.”

Southend head into the game sitting 11th in the table, just one place and four points above the relegation zone.

And Gould is therefore eager to bounce back from Saturday’s 50-17 defeat at high-flying Wimbledon.

“I thought we actually played well in patches against Wimbledon but we were hit on the counter-attack and from our own mistakes,” said the former Seevic College student.

“It’s something we need to rectify this weekend.”
