CANVEY Island will look to turn around their recent wretched form when they make the trip to fellow-strugglers Burgess Hill Town tonight.

The Gulls have been on the receiving end of a number of thrashings this month, losing 5-0 twice and 4-0 once in the past fortnight meaning they have now conceded 71 times in 30 league matches.

Danny Heale’s side are second from bottom in the Ryman Premier League but are just two points behind Burgess Hill, who do have four matches in hand over tonight’s opponents.

Heale has looked to plug his porous defence by bringing in Gabby Adelowo from Billericay Town, who has been allowed to leave until the end of the season following the arrivals of Joe Ellul and Rob Swaine at New Lodge.

Another former Billericay player could also make a first appearance under Danny Heale, with striker Simon Thomas linking up with Canvey.

l Canvey’s league match against Worthing, scheduled to be played on Tuesday, January 31 is to be rearranged.

A new date is yet to be agreed.
