SHOEBURYNESS High put forward some outstanding performances in the annual senior schools' Borough Sports, held at Gloucester Park, Basildon.

They provided four gold medal winners including Olivia Law, 12, in the year seven girls 100 metres where she ran 13.8 and is now ranked third in Essex.

Sian McCrory, 13, took the year eight girls' 200 metres in a new school record 29.2, while Leanne Richards, 14, not only had a new school record but also a personal best in winning the year nine girls shot with a put of 9.35.

For the boys, Jamie Bush, 13, really excelled in the year nine 1,500.

He won in 4.39, new borough and school records in an event where he was ranked third in the Essex Championships.

Most successful on the team front were the year eight girls who finished third, an outstanding achievement.

Said Shoebury's Lisa Sargeant: "These were our best results for many years and we are very proud of all the students that took part.

Other results: Girls Year 10: 300, Jazmin Young, 49.7 (3rd); 200, Leah Cowen, 30.0 (4th).

Year 9: 200, Karis Imossi, 29.0 (3rd); 1,500, Marie Radford, 5.46 (2nd).

Year 8: 100, Leanne McCrory, 13.5 (3rd); Hurdles, Yasmin Nugent, 13.8 (4th) school record; Discus, Yasmin Nugent, 17.81 (3rd).

Year 7: 100, Charlotte Paige, 4th 14.8; 1,500, Jordan Lacey, 14.8 (4th) school record at the English Schools 5.58; Discus, Victoria Paige, 14.28 (4th).

Lizzie Jackson also broke a school record with her javelin throw of 22.61.
