SOUTHEND United defender Che Wilson today confirmed he was contemplating his future with the Shrimpers.

The full-back has been offered a new one-year deal to stay at Roots Hall.

And he is currently weighing up his options.

"I don't want to leave but I shall be thinking about things over the next day or two," said Wilson who made just two starts for the Seasiders last season.

"The manager has always insisted that he wants me to stay and the club have made me an offer.

"I want to play football though and hopefully that can still happen here."

Wilson joined Southend from Cambridge City in the summer of 2003.

He fought his way into the side and became a regular in the team which won two successive promotions to surge into the Championship.

But - once at that level - Wilson was replaced by Steve Hammell and he eventually ended up heading out on loan to both Brentford and Rotherham.

"Last season was a very frustrating time for me," said the 28-year-old.

"I was looking forward to it all summer and it was pretty hard to take what happened.

"I ended up going out on loan and it was disappointing.

To make matters worse for the former Norwich City trainee all three of the teams he played for were relegated last season.
