NINE girls represented Wickford's Carousel Gym Club at the Bury Spectrum novice competition and came back with a large haul of medals.

In the seven and under age group Chloe Stone performed exceptionally well and won the silver medal, a place higher than her previous competition. She also had the top score on vault.

Karen Goshen finished a creditable fifth, particularly after a few errors on beam, but regained her nerve to gain the third highest floor score.

In the eight year age group Millie Otter performed well on all four pieces and became champion.

She also scored the top scores on both bars and floor.

Abby Robertson also did well to take the top beam score and collect the bronze overall.

In the nine year age group Lauren Benson became champion and was also the top scorer on vault and bars.

This was particularly rewarding as Benson was competing with a metal pin in her arm as a result of an earlier accident.

The 10-year age group came next with Georgia Anderson performing confidently to win the beam and become the overall champion.

Rebecca Seeley added to the success by taking silver for runners-up spot on the beam.

In the 11-year section Natasha Chapman took the bronze and could have been champion but for a fall on beam.

Finally, in the 12/13 age group, Kirsty Connor took the bronze medal with a steady display, gaining the top score on beam and floor.

Connor only trains two hours a week so it was a great achievement.
