SPARE a thought for Rochford Hundred's Simon Torry, who notched a hole-in-one on the tough 206 yard par three 15th Guest Day.

This time it cost him a few quid in drinks, but had he achieved the feat in the previous weekend's Captain's Day he would have won a car!

Meanwhile, victory in the main betterball competition went to Peter Richardson and his 22 handicap guest from Garon Park, Jay Spink, with a superb 51 Stableford points.

They easily saw off the challenge from Steve Farrell and Mike Wilks (Boyce Hill) on 49 points with Roger Fearn and Eddie Fowles (Romford) a point further back in third spot.

The afternoon Texas Scramble saw Dick Jones, Gurmit Chana (Thorpe Hall), Alan Piper and Richard Fennell (South Essex) win the front nine with 29.0 ahead of Steve Cann, Hugh Montgomery (Lords), Ian Dudley and Lachie Campbell (Diss) on 29.4.

Back nine honours were claimed by Peter Dolby, Ian D'eath (Boyce Hill), John Coates and Bill Mansfield (Purdis Heath) with 28.1 just .4 better than runners-up Richard Hayes, Tony Fagg (Belfairs), Peter Leslie and John Kreyling (Southend).

Torry obviously won nearest the pin on the 15th with Eddie Fowles, Mick Hobbs and John Ivison taking the other awards.

Jay Spink had the longest drive and Eddie Fowles was nearest the line on the ninth hole.
