WITHAM Town are looking forward to welcoming back their most famous ever player' tomorrow.
For current Southend United manager Steve Tilson spent two seasons at Spa Road at the start of his career before joining Blues in 1989.
And chairman Tony Last cannot wait to see him back at the Ryman Division One North club.
"We are very proud of Steve Tilson's association with Witham Town and we're very grateful that he is bringing his full strength Southend side down to play tomorrow," said Last.
"We have had people like Alan Brazil down here but Tilly has been a success as both a player and a manager so that has to make him the most ever player we've had."
Adding to that, Last was also quick to praise Tilson as a person.
"The best thing about Steve is that he's a really nice guy as well," he added.
"That's quite rare in football and it's good to see one of the good guys being a success. I've been involved with the game for years - as a player, manager and now as chairman - so I know just how many mercenaries there are."
>TICKETS for Tuesday night's friendly between Great Wakering Rovers and Southend United at Burroughs Park are on sale at the ground between 7pm and 9pm each evening leading up to the game, apart from Sunday.
They are priced at £10 adults and £5 concessions.
