ROCHFORD Hundred will be seeking a third win in succession when they travel to Ipswich this weekend.

Rochford are currently top of the London Two North East table after securing back-to-back victories.

And Hundred’s Tom Ashton is keen to keep the good run going.

“The start to the season has been pleasing and our performances have improved every week as we gel as a team and become more familiar with how the coaching team want and expect us to play,” said Ashton.

“Sudbury, in our first league outing, was a mixed bag.

“I was pleased with our first half and we showed a mental immaturity in the second half which we spoke about during the week leading to the Chelmsford game.

“We put those issues to bed with an 80 minute performance which was good to see as I personally, along with the likes of James Kellard and Micheal Guess, have a responsibility, being the more experienced players on the pitch, to make sure everyone stays mentally switched on from the first to the last whistle.

“But we have to keep that good form going now.”

Rochford have scored 137 points in their first two games after significantly strengthening their squad in the summer.

Ashton, pictured above, was among those recruited by director of rugby Chris Green and the centre is enjoying being back at Magnolia Road.

“I am very much enjoying being back at Rochford,” said Ashton.

“It’s my childhood club and I am honoured every time I pull on the jersey.

“There is a positivity and energy around the place that’s great to be a part of.”

Promotion is therefore Rochford’s main goal this season.

And Ashton is confident of extending the winning run this weekend.

“I always prepare myself for a battle, it is 15 men against 15 so anything can happen against Ipswich,” said Ashton.

“But if we play like we know we can and have the right attitude I am very confident we will get the result we expect.”

Ipswich head into the game sitting eighth in the table after winning one of their two games so far this season.

But they were beaten 93-0 at Sudbury last weekend.
