BEN Greenhalgh says Concord Rangers’ league position belies their league form as he bids to hit his former heights against Chippenham Town tomorrow.

The 25-year-old winger returned to the Beach Boys last month for his third spell at the club, having left at the end of the 2016 season.

Greenhalgh scored 18 times and assisted 33 goals last time out at Concord, although he was unable to replicate that success at Maidstone United and Hemel Hempstead Town.

And he is determined to help lift Concord away from the National League South relegation places – following a run of seven consecutive draws.

“There are a lot of positives to take from our position, despite our current league position,” said Greenhalgh.

“If you are unbeaten at the top then you are getting the plaudits, it is only because we are where we are that we are not. But to go seven games unbeaten at this level is an achievement. We had a bad start but we are doing well in the league now, and we just need to tighten up. We are scoring goals and going ahead in matches. We just need to close out a game and, once we do, that becomes a habit.”

Greenhalgh has already played Chippenham once this season – going down 5-1 on the road while at Hemel Hempstead.

But, having moved past that result, he is keen to repay the faith shown in him by manager Adam Flanagan.

“We played them and lost 5-1 and it was a shock result but we had to play the second half with 10 men,” he said. “But from what I remember, they are compact and well-structured and like to play on the counter attack.

“If we perform to our levels and stay tight in the last 15 minutes we can win. I made the move to Hemel in the summer as they made out they wanted to win the league but things changed down there. The football didn’t really suit my style so I had a word about moving on. I wanted to go to Concord. I spoke to Flan and I trust the club and know how it all works. I am enjoying it up top with Stevie (Cawley) and I hope it serves us well tomorrow.”

THE PREVIEW: Concord Rangers are on the hunt for their first league win in three months when Chippenham Town visit Essex tomorrow.

Despite the long winless sequence, the Beach Boys have gone seven matches unbeaten in the league and played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Welling United last Saturday.

Two goals up, Concord trailed heading into injury-time, only for Femi Akinwande to score a last-gasp leveller.

Chippenham, 14th in the league, have lost just one of their last seven matches in all competitions and have picked up some excellent wins - including against Chelmsford City.

However, just two wins away from home means Concord will be encouraged on their own patch.

MEN TO WATCH: Femi Akinwande netted a late equaliser for Concord last weekend. Chippenham have former East Thurrock defender Mike Jones in their team.

WHEN & WHERE: 3pm, tomorrow at The Aspect Arena, Thames Road, Canvey Island, SS8 0HH

WHAT THE BOSS SAID: “They have lost only one in the last seven games which shows they are a team in form,” said manager Adam Flanagan. “They are also sixth in the league for goals scored which highlights the attacking threat they have in the team and which we will have to stop.

“They also picked up a very good win against Chelmsford a few weeks ago as well so we know it will be a very tough fixture.”

TEAM NEWS: Youngster Jed Smith is pushing for a start in the Beach Boys team.
