GLENN Tamplin has been reinstated as Billericay Town manager, three days after he told the Echo he was quitting in charge.

The Town boss vowed to step down if his team lost Saturday's FA Trophy quarter-final on Twitter.

Following the heavy 5-2 reverse, Tamplin said he was stepping aside after the a number of players refused to give up a week's wages following a run of poor performances.

But he will now remain as manager until the end of the season, having previously demoted himself to assistant manager, with Harry Wheeler to take over at the end of term.

The full statament can be seen below.

"After two days of meetings with the players, coaching and internal staff after Saturday’s game we as a club have made a unanimous decision that Glenn Tamplin will see the club through as manager until the end of this current season.

"The players have insisted Glenn stay on to see them through what has proved to be a low point for the club with three losses in four games.

"With two cup finals and the league ours to lose the players insisted it can and will be a successful season but with Glenn in charge.

"Glenn has high expectations and the demands he puts on himself are not always achievable and he knows the demands were elevating stress for himself and his players.

"Harry Wheeler will be appointed team manager at the end of this season."

It is not the first U-turn at Billericay this season.

In August, Tamplin fired the club's cheerleaders after claiming some of the girls were sending their phone numbers to players, only to reinstate them the following week. The cheerleaders have not been seen at a game in a number of months.

And in December Jermaine Pennant quit the club only to resign 24 hours later. He then departed earlier this month.
