HARRY Wheeler says he was thinking about team selection for tonight’s Isthmian Premier League match against Tonbridge Angels the moment the final whistle had gone on Billericay Town’s Essex Senior Cup triumph.
Town defeated Chelmsford City 2-1 to lift the Essex Senior Cup for the first time in seven years.
Robbie Evans and Calum Butcher scored the goals to hand Town their first silverware of the season, as Glenn Tamplin’s team recorded another victory against higher-tiered opposition and last season’s cup winners.
But head coach Wheeler said his sole focus was securing three points tonight.
“It is on to the next one now,” he said. “My mind is on Tonbridge and I have already been picking a team in my head. We are aiming to close the gap by 10pm tonight.
“Winning the cup gives us great momentum coming into the busy period. It was massive not only because it is a final but also because we have not been great recently.
“We needed to build on that initial win and we have been able to do that and get in our stride.
“I thought we shaded the first 15 minutes but for the rest of the half they were better after that without a doubt. But for the last 40 minutes of the game we were the better team and deserved to win.
“They are a really good team but we shaded it.
“It was a magnificent turnout and it is great for Glenn for what he has done for the club.”
