ROBBIE Evans said he was delighted to win his first trophy since turning professional six years ago.

Evans played a vital role in Billericay Town’s Essex Senior Cup victory over Chelmsford City.

The versatile 22-year-old scored the opening goal of the night and cleared a goalbound effort off the line two minutes later.

And the Welshman, who has made 42 appearances this season, says lifting the trophy was a great feeling.

“It was gritty first 20 minutes which is what you expect in a cup final,” said Evans. “We didn’t want to concede and we kept it tight. Then I got the goal one minute and I cleared one off the line too so it wasn’t a bad night for me.

“It is my first trophy since I turned professional which is great. I have been playing since I was 16 and I was determined to win.

“Fair play to Chelmsford as they gave us a good game but we stuck to the game plan and we got the goal that put us ahead in the second half and held on.

“I think it was fully deserved in the end,” added Evans. “I will enjoy this win but the focus is very much on tonight against Tonbridge Angels now.

“The priority is winning the league, as it always has been, but this is the preparation we all wanted.

“It is a great competition and is important to the people of Billericay and it sets us up perfectly.

“We are on a little run and we want three trophies, like we did at the start of the season. We have one and now we look forward to the next game.”
