FORMER Billericay Town striker Nathan Elder came back to haunt his former club as his late header helped Tonbridge Angels to a 2-1 victory in the Isthmian Premier League.

Town were looking to close the gap on leaders Dulwich Hamlet to two points, just two days after they had lifted the Essex Senior Cup.

After half chances for both sides in the opening 10 minutes Jake Robinson was twice thwarted, once by goalkeeper Jonathan Henly and once by the crossbar.

But it was striker partner Billy Bricknell who broke the deadlock, powering into the net from inside the penalty area eight minutes before the break.

Into the second half Luke Rooney almost got onto the end of a cross before Tonbridge started to crank up the pressure.

Alan Julian stopped Bricknell from scoring an own goal with some agile keeping while Alex Akrofi rattled the crossbar shortly afterwards.

But with 15 minutes to go it was all square. Joe Turner let rip a fearsome volley which beat Julian all ends up.

And Elder was to pile on the pain as his header made it 2-1 with just five minutes of the game remaining.

And despite Town’s best efforts the equaliser was not forthcoming.
