EMILY Scott has spoken of her joy after helping England’s Rugby Sevens side to win bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

The Corringham-based Scott was part of the team which saw off Canada in the third place play-off.

And the former Seevic College student felt winning bronze in Australia was right up there with the very best moments of her career.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have some fantastic experiences and achieve so much through rugby, but the Commonwealths is right up there,” said Scott.

“Winning the Grand Slam Six Nations was definitely a highlight, as was competing in the Olympics.

“But I would say that the Commonwealth Games bronze medal is up with those achievements.

“I’ve kept my medal pretty close to me since getting it on the podium, so it definitely means a lot to me and it’s something I’m very proud of.”

England scored three first half tries on their way to a 24-19 victory against Canada on the Gold Coast.

And Scott was pleased to help England get their own back on the Canadians, who pipped them to bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

“To come so close in Rio but to fall at the final hurdle and lose the bronze medal match was very tough to take,” said Scott.

“But those experiences only make you better players and a better team, and we were certainly able to use that to our advantage in the Commonwealths.”

And Scott enjoyed every second of her spell on the Gold Coast.

“The Commonwealths were a fantastic experience,” said the 25-year-old.

“As rugby players, it’s not often we get to be part of big multi-sport events and it’s inspiring to be around so many talented athletes.

“It’s extra special to also be representing Team England and contributing to the medals table.

“In the village, Team England all live in a block together so it’s a real family feel.”

And Scott was also happy with how the games went.

“Each match was tough and threw up it’s own challenges, but we had done our homework and went into each game with a clear plan which we were then able to execute,” said Scott.

“The match against Australia on the first day was a particular favourite of mine.

“To play against the hosts in a sold out stadium on the Friday evening was a really special moment even though the result didn’t go our way.”
