DANNY Heale has urged his Canvey Island players to hit the heights of Wednesday when they visit Haringey Borough in Sunday’s Isthmian North play-off final.

The Gulls were worthy winners against Bowers & Pitsea and now face a tough trip to north London.

And Heale is excited at the challenge, saying his players head to Haringey with ‘no pressure’.

“We will train tonight and go to Haringey as underdogs and see what we can do. There is no pressure on us. We came through the Bowers test with flying colours and we want to do the same again.

“You can only get confidence from the result against Bowers. But it is in Haringey’s hands and we are going there to spoil the party.

“The support was fantastic on social media and at the game. we want to see them on Sunday.”

Heale could not stop singing the praises of his players following a week he has received criticism for bringing in Sam Higgins and James White on dual registration deals.

“It is my first time competing in the play-offs as a manager and I couldn’t be prouder,” he said.

“We have taken a lot of stick this week and we let our football do the talking. The club or I did not make the rules and I think I have been clever with it. I’m not going to apologise to anyone.

“Canvey Island put me in charge to get results and I used this situation to my favour.

“We got what we deserved and were excellent from start to finish.”

THE PREVIEW: So it all comes down to this for Canvey Island and Haringey Borough.

One will be celebrating promotion to the Isthmian Premier League while the other will be resigned to another year in the fourth tier of non-league.

Haringey have not played in the Isthmian Premier League before, having only won promotion from the Essex Senior League in 2015.

A fifth placed finish last season resulted in another play-off clash, which ended in defeat at the semi-final stage.

Haringey have bettered that this season, following Wednesday’s 2-0 victory against Heybridge Swifts, and come into the match as favourites.

The hosts artificial surface is likely to work in their favour and they have an excellent record at Coles Park.

They have won eight of their last nine home matches and have not conceded a goal in any of those victories.

Exactly a month prior to this clash, Canvey were beaten 2-0 at Coles Park by Haringey.

Can Danny Heale’s Canvey exact revenge when it matters the most?

MEN TO WATCH: Sam Higgins and George Sykes will likely provide the goal threat once again, with Martin Tuohy an excellent option off the substitutes’ bench.

Haringey’s team is full of goals. Ralston Gabriel has netted 22 times this season, with Andre McCollin, Anthony McDonald and Jorge Djassi-Sambu also clinical marksmen.

WHEN & WHERE: Sunday at Coles Park, White Hart Lane, Tottenham, London, N17 7JP. Kick-off at 3pm.

ADMISSION: Adults £7, concessions £3, senior citizens/students/under-18’s (proof maybe required), under-16’s free.

THE TEAM NEWS: Mitch Gilbey is expected to be fit despite going off with a knock against Bowers.
